An Unshakeable Drive Toward Excellence

Recognition was never the goal. It arrived as confirmation of something Designer Doorware already believed: that there are no shortcuts, and that the smallest detail carries the weight of the whole.

The work begins with questions. What is the inspiration for the project? What is the end goal? Who is the client? Who is the audience? By consulting closely with the architect or designer, Designer Doorware becomes an extension of their design process, so the hardware tells one consistent story throughout a space. It is a way of working that opens the door to anything, because it starts with a blank sheet of paper.

That conviction has been affirmed on the world’s most discerning stages. In 2016, the Monte Timber Lever Collection was named winner in the hardware category at Interior Design’s Best of Year Awards, chosen from 2,016 entries across 38 countries, and the Timber Quad was honoured at the inaugural NYCxDESIGN Awards, judged at MoMA in New York. Five years on, the Bull Pull, designed in-house to solve a gap Joseph Di Benedetto had identified in the market, took the winner’s accolade at the 2021 Good Design Australia Awards.

The through line is the same discipline that shapes every piece. Every product is designed, prototyped, machined, polished and finished under one roof in Australia. An idea drawn up in CAD can be machined downstairs in the factory within the same day, a way of working that keeps craftsmanship close and standards uncompromising.

That standard has drawn some of the most demanding projects in the world to Designer Doorware’s door. At The St. Regis New York, part of a ninety-million-dollar restoration of one of Manhattan’s most storied addresses, the original Louis XV lever was recreated through 3D scanning and reverse engineering, down to the St Regis insignia. Eight hundred custom brass roses were designed in-house, each stamped with the hotel’s signature feathers and finished in lacquered polished brass.

In Macau, Bates Smart set out to create a new benchmark for luxury at Crown Towers, City of Dreams, a project that won the Australian Interior Design Award for Best International Design. Designer Doorware supplied door furniture that answered the project’s exacting standards for grandeur, fire safety, and security in equal measure.

Closer to home, the collaborations run just as deep. For Maddocks, the HASSELL Block handle was designed by HASSELL and engineered by Designer Doorware. At the Istana, classic, minimalist hardware punctuated a twenty-five-storey tower by CK Designworks. And at Vogue South Yarra, Prisma handles and custom sliding tracks answered The Buchan Group’s vision for a landmark on Chapel Street.
